The moment: footnote to memory #1



There are too many things around us demanding our attention. The event seems absent in the everyday life, but who knows when and where it might pop up all of a sudden. It flickers in a limited attention span, but in a glimpse we are jostled to become aware of its presence, and relive the event again.

228 Massacre (228事件)
On February 28 1947, a major rebellion breaks out against the rule of Nationalist Chinese Governor; it is put down with force and many Taiwanese are killed.

87 flood (87水災)
On August 7 1959, the worst floods in more than half a century hit central and southern Taiwan.

921 earthquake (921地震)
In the night at 2:47 AM on September 21 in 1999 people in Taiwan shared the experience of an earthquake measured 7.3 on the Richter scale, its epicenter located in Chi-chi area in central Taiwan.

72 Typhoon (72風災)
On July 2. 2005, Typhoon invaded Taiwan with torrential rainfall. More than 24,000 residents were evacuated to shelters by the flood and debris flow.
