Artist's book#2_You are not here

The 228 Incident was an uprising in Taiwan that began on February 28, 1947 and was suppressed by the Kuomintang (KMT) government, resulting in between ten thousand to twenty thousand civilians killed. This event is now commemorated in Taiwan as Peace Memorial Day. In the aftermath of the 228 Incident, martial law was declared in 1948. This work is about a silent history of Taiwan, a small island, bearing such hardship during the "White Terror" period.

Artist's book #1--Words

The words I know
The words I don't know
The words I talk to others
The words in my mind
The words I write down
The words I guess
The words I lost
The words

When I was studying English in American, I kept shaping my world through new words I learned and now I’m still in the process of finding precise words for expression.

This work is about the process of learning a new language so I use clay to create my territory of living in a foreign country. The body of work allows readers to touch, open and close it. I am redefining my personal history via growing words. People keep history through written words. Even though history is written and printed, it can be changed under different social revolution.

KIKI SMITH_A Gathering

Kiki Smith_A Gathering

STANDING GIRL
Look up the endless of the universe
Amaze at how big it is
Falling down
Stretch to touch it
How small we are

When we get tired of crawling around on the floor carrying the heavy load of our small, ordinary problems, we should from time to time raised our head to see these small little points which are twinkling in the sky. They call us to a different destiny. This is the reason why the stars are so indispensable.--------- Emmannel B. Dongala, Zentralafrika

What’s left behind?
When I sleep
When I die
What I write
What I told
All fragments
